A showing that concludes a 9-day research process by the IMRC / DIVERT inclusive dance collective on corporealities, identities, inclusive and subversive performing practices through dance, performance and video.
We started this research with the idea to question our methodology and practice as an inclusive collective and challenge most of the areas which have become comfortable and familiar to us.
The practice that we uncovered in these sessions is grounded in durational experiences of (mainly) solo performing situations and streams of live questions that inform and provoke the content and materiality of the performances.
The presence of several cameras and screens serves as a further radicalisation of the awareness and willingness to expose our unique shapes, temporalities, fragilities, motivations and desires.
How do I watch myself watching myself… Do you dream of walking… Is there a question that cannot be asked… Do you understand your recorded voice… Is the act of asking question as important as getting an answer… What are wheels for you… How many legs do you have… Which question would you want to be asked… Why is “how” more productive than “why”… What is the difference between dancing barefoot and in flip-flops… Can a camera watch the instantaneous reproduction of what it is seeing…?
From Peggy Phelan:
“Performance art usually occurs in the suspension between the “real” physical matter of “the performing body” and the psychic experience of what it is to be em-bodied. Like a rackety bridge swaying under too much weight, performance keeps one anchor on the side of the corporeal (the body Real) and one on the side of the psychic Real. Performance boldly and precariously declares that Being is performed (and made temporarily visible) in that suspended in-between.”
The residency is a part of the Life Long Burning EU project, programme line Creative Crossroads.
