Capacity Grid & On The Outset

Capacity Grid is an innovative, non-academic, continued education model for emerging and mid-career dance and performance artists, aiming to develop a strong cooperation exchange among network partners and a cross-border benefit to the local scenes.

On The Outset entails education in arts administration, production and communication, and curatorial practises. It aims at creating sustainable jobs and growth by involving artists or arts-interested persons in the partner institutions as interns or full staff members.

Aditionally, Outsetters Abroad gives the beneficiaries of On the Outset the possibility to enhance their experience with a stay at one of the partner institutions of the LLB network.

On The Outset 2024

Elvan Tekin completed an internship as part of On The Outset at Uferstudios

Elvan Tekin (Izmir, 1994) is a dancer, performer, choreographer and community organizer based in Berlin. Driven from her upbringing in the geo-politics of west Asia, her artistic interests deal with the entanglement and fluidity of one’s body, language, identity, and their (trans)formations and how these interact and shape the understanding of self and other. In 2022, Elvan’s research project poetics of political resistance was funded in the frame of #TakeHeart residencies in Kampnagel, Hamburg. In 2023, her solo performance to be a fish in a raki bottle was presented at Tanztage Festival in Sophiensaele, Berlin. Recently, she has completed her master’s degree in Choreography at HZT, Berlin. Moreover, Elvan is the co-curator and organizer of the curatorial project emergent spaces that is centralizing queer and trans* feminist perspectives in the diaspora.

Elvan Tekin worked at Uferstudios from October 2024 to January 2025 as part of the Life Long Burning program On The Outset.

In December, Elvan Tekin visited our Swedish network partner MDT in Stockholm as part of Outsetters Abroad.

Outsetters Abroad 2024

Maja Freiberg as Outsetter Abroad at Uferstudios

Maja Freiberg is a dance artist from Sweden, educated at the University of Stavanger and Copenhagen Contemporary Dance School. She develops her own works and collaborates with others in different constellations. In her work she explores improvisation and interdisciplinary expressions, particularly focusing on the meeting between dance and textile work. Together with Rakel Laupsa-Nesje she produces works for children as RAUS danseteater, where they look into how dance is affected by physical objects.

Maja applied to Life Long Burning and On the Outset to gain further experience in producing and in combining the roles of dancer, choreographer and producer, with the goal of letting them develop simultaneously. During the fall of 2023 she took part in a production internship at MDT and continued this learning experience by spending time at Uferstudios in June 2024, through Outsetters Abroad.

Tour through Tanztage 2024

Once again this year, we offered the "Tour through Tanztage", a workshop accompanying the Berliner Tanztage (from 5-20.1.24 at the Sophiensaele) in cooperation with Life Long Burning. The workshop offered a total of six choreographers from different partner institutions the opportunity to attend Tanztage performances together, discuss them, exchange artistic and curatorial intentions and ideas and present their own works to each other.
The sessions were accompanied by Amsterdam-based performing arts curator Inge Koks and attended by guest speakers.
Participants this year were: Pauline Lavogez (ICI CCN - Montpellier), Denisa Rad (4Culture Bucharest), Yvonne Sembene, Hannah Schillinger and Cikacé Lestine.
