Starting in the fall, we are looking for a new Technical Lead. For this position, we are seeking a committed and good-humored colleague with experience and interest in contemporary dance and current artistic practices, who has a particular affinity for working with artists, enjoys collaborative working methods, and appreciates the unique atmosphere of Uferstudios.
About Uferstudios GmbH:
Since its opening in 2010, Uferstudios has provided Berlin-based choreographers, dancers, and other artists with space for professional work. The core of our operation is the rental of studios for research, creative work, and presentations. What makes Uferstudios unique is the synergetic convergence of artistic production, education, and information, realized in partnership with HZT Berlin, Tanzfabrik Berlin, Tanzbüro, PSR-Kollektiv, and ada Studio. In terms of profile, Uferstudios GmbH aims to remain as open and adaptable as possible to meet the evolving needs, desires, and demands of artistic practices. We act as a hub for questions, ideas, and initiatives from Berlin's dancers and choreographers, and together with our partners, we foster artist networking and idea exchange through various projects.
TASKS:
- Technical management and responsible supervision of in-house and guest productions as well as rehearsal settings, ensuring compliance with safety, operations, and assembly venue regulations
- Consulting for resident artistic productions and performances in the areas of lighting and stage design (e.g., via regular consultation hours, intro and advanced training sessions), including review of technical plans for feasibility and implementation
- Coordination of lighting, stage, video, and sound demands by artistic projects, including scheduling of technical staff and external service providers
- Coordination of technical equipment from the shared equipment pool among various artistic projects and Uferstudios partners
- Scheduling, organizing, and possibly performing maintenance, repair, and cleaning tasks for lighting and stage equipment as well as the shared equipment pool
- Planning of new purchases for stage, lighting, video, and sound equipment, including procurement and contract awarding
- Recording of all finance-related activities in the area of stage equipment
- Potential assumption of technical evening shifts
REQUIREMENTS:
- Relevant technical training and qualifications (‘Meister’ in Event/Lighting Technology or equivalent training plus ‘Befähigungszeugnis’ by the IHK Berlin) with at least 2 years of experience in a theater setting or equivalent freelance work with personnel and technical responsibility
- Familiarity with the working models of freelance artists and groups and ability to technically realize artistic concepts, with a strong understanding of artistic processes
- Ability to efficiently plan logistical and operational procedures and confidently manage coordination tasks
- Independent, team-oriented, and structured work style with a hands-on mentality and a desire to develop new solutions for the department and the organization as a whole
- Flexibility, good time and self-management, and willingness to work event-related hours as needed
- Proficiency in German and English (spoken and written); additional languages welcome
- Enjoyment of administrative tasks, attention to detail, and precision
- Strong knowledge of standard office software, especially Excel; CAD skills a plus
- Strong interest in cooperative thinking, cultural diversity, ecology, and social justice is highly desired
