D.R.A.G. is the new production of the artist Mariola Groener and the dancer Günther Wilhelm, who have been working together under the label WILHELM GROENER since 2001. D.R.A.G. (Dingus, Realities, Android-Animal. Group.) is a 4-part performance pursuing the themes that have been already revealed in WILHELM GROENER's performance and exhibition cycle „becoming undone“ (2015–2017). The single letters of the title refer to separate, thematically different fields, which explore the transformation of human realities in relation to their surrounding structures. Together they create a texture of installative, performative, real and imaginary spaces.
In the first part D. (Dingus) the audience initially discovers a performative situation with a thing, that focuses on the exploration of subject and object relations.
The second part R. (Realities) is a solo performance that seems to unite several layers of reality in one person. By the entanglement and rhythmical structure of the visual, physical and acoustical levels, a performative texture emerges which exposes manifold layers of perception.
In the third part A. (Android-Animal) the audience enters studio 14. Here, they encounter a performative situation with five dancers on a mirror surface; their movement language creates a kind of a ‘picture-puzzle-game´ exploring the borders of the human. It develops a space of possible extensions and transformations.
Finally, in the fourth part G. (Group) the studio is opened up creating a black space. Seven performers move in establishing a seemingly floating and unified—or perhaps remotely controlled—community.
As a kind of a boundary-crossing laboratory, D.R.A.G. mirrors a kaleidoscopic sense of the self and the world; dazzling, manifold and volatile. A brave new world?
