Life on the island of West Berlin. A glance over the wall. ISLANDSCAPES follows the experiences of women between West Berlin and Iran in 1979 – between diaspora and revolution, left unseen beneath the surface in German-German collective memory. Film and performance dive into female remembrance, for maybe Islands are just peaks of vast mountains underwater.
In ISLANDSCAPES documentary video art and dance come together and blur memories of Berlin’s division and the beginning of the Iranian revolution: fighting for democracy on their parents’ shoulders, these children protest the Berlin wall. ISLANDSCAPES tells about the collective memory’s (in-)visibilities and sheds light the blind spots of history.
The film premiere of ISLANDSCAPES is followed by a performance.
