Wait, what? Is this… the last Open Spaces Festival?
Maybe. We don’t know yet. Because from time to time, things need to be reevaluated. Are they still working as planned? Are any adjustments needed? Any changes necessary?
Cultural organizations – and their formats – need regular assessment. Tanzfabrik Berlin has decided to involve the public in its process of self-evaluation, and go about in a playful manner, starting with its signature presentation format.
Since 2014, Open Spaces has been appealing to broad audiences with a diverse program across various formats, displaying some of the most prominent voices in Berlin’s Contemporary Dance scene, that have produced and rehearsed their work at Tanzfabrik’s studios.
This year’s festival will be no exception! From the 17th to the 28th of February, Open Spaces will light up one of the gloomiest months of the year. The opening night will take place in Radialsystem, with two major Berlin premieres: DRANG by Sergiu Matis and Terrain by Milla Koistinen. Both works are part of an ongoing, recently renamed, collaboration between Tanzfabrik and Radialsystem – – whose aim is to support artists in order to reach wider audiences.
During the second week, Uferstudios will become once again the center of the festival. In collaboration with NEUE HÄUTE, Studio 1 will transform into a WINTERBAR — a welcoming space for formal and informal meetings, free performances and musical evenings. The other studios will host many premieres: In return by Sandra Man & Moritz Majce, Remixes by Christina Ciupke & Boris Hauf, and No More Suffering by Kareth Schaffer & Martin Hansen. Moreover, the exhibition CATALYSTS – Somatic Resonance by Margret Sarah Gudjansdottir will be presented at ICI Berlin as part of the Symposium Performing Embodiment: Practices of Reduction.
Twelve exciting days mark the high point of Tanzfabrik’s annual calendar! Unimaginable to renounce to them! They say all the best things must come to an end... but do they?
All performances will take place in compliance with the current legal protection and hygiene measures for cultural operations.
